Istanbul is a city that has changed greatly over past centuries, and that is still changing, bringing the remains of ancient civilizations into contact with the present, traditional compared with modernity, part Europe and part Asia. It is built on both sides of the Bosphorus, a narrow strait between the Marmara Sea and the Black Sea. Its population is variously estimated at between 12 million and 19 million people, making it the largest city in Europe and one of the largest in the world. Its leisure opportunities are boundless, with many nightlife areas, such as Ortakoy, Istiklal Street, Aksaray and Kadikoy.
