Geneva, at the western extremity of Switzerland and Lac Léman, is almost surrounded by France, and so it has a distinctly French feel to it, but the many international organizations located here make it one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities. One of the symbols of the city is the Jet d’eau, a fountain that reaches a height of 140 metres by means of a 200 km/h nozzle speed. At any moment, 7,000 litres of water are in the air! You can visit it along a stone jetty, but you risk a shower. Sights in the well-preserved old town include the Cathédrale St. Pierre, and Ile Rousseau, an island on the river Rhône.
