Café de la Paix
2 rue Scribe, 75009 Paris
"Le Café de la Paix has made a comeback!" announced Le Nouvel Observateur early in 2004, including it in its pantheon of the "400 hip spots in Paris." In fact, after over 140 years in existence, the restaurant has taken on a new lease of life. It was completely transformed by a renovation operation in 2003, which brought the Parisians back to its elegant red seats, and has since attracted a new and discerning clientele with its panelled ceilings, Second Empire frescoes, and its lively yet intimate atmosphere. It is also favoured by artists, politicians and other celebrities. Famous names include Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Stanislassia Kelin, Chantal Thomass, Agnès b. and Paco Rabanne.
The restaurant is part of the InterContinental Paris Le Grand Hotel, opposite Opéra Garnier and close to all the stores and boutiques around Place Vendome. Caé de la Paix is open every day from 12 noon to 3.30 p.m. for lunch, and from 6.00 to 11.30 p.m. for dinner.
Wines are made easy by the sommelier's selection of four wines by the glass at €49: Montagny 1er Cru, Chablis 1er Cru, Esprit de Chevalier, and Fleurie. Here they serve updated French classics and if you’re after a snack, you can’t go past their Fashion Pastry Collection, desserts created by some of the world’s favourite designers, of course with help from the chefs themselves.
