Spring and summer are absolutely breathtaking seasons in Switzerland; after the frosty alpine winter, the country comes alive with placid blue skies and explosions of green pastures and wildflowers.

It is the perfect backdrop for the multitude of music festivals you can enjoy all over the country, and they run the gamut from classical to jazz to electro and even include an event with over 60 DJs performing over the course of four days.

Summer begins with Geneva’s Fete de la Musique, a much beloved annual appointment that fills the streets of this enchanting lakeside city for three days (June 21st-23rd). This family friendly affair offers something for all musical tastes, from classical orchestras to rock and pop. The roads are closed off to traffic, so you can walk liberally all over the city, which takes on a park like atmosphere for the duration of this fun-filled event.

The world famous Montreux Jazz Festival kicks off on July 5th and runs through July 20th for two weeks of the best jazz you will hear outside of New Orleans. The famous venue and festival has hosted such greats as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Stan Getz. Check out the official website, www.montreuxjazz.com for this year’s line-up.

If classical music is your thing then you can't miss the Verbier Festival. Running from July 19th until August 4th, this is undoubtedly one of the most important classical festivals of the year where you can enjoy symphonic orchestras, chamber music and virtuosic solos, performed by the world’s leading musicians daily. There are three to four concerts a day and the program is inspiring as it is varied.

This years marks the festival’s 20th anniversary, so there will no doubt be especially wonderful performances in store. To learn more about the program, peruse the website: www.verbierfestival.com
