A stunningly restored 15th century villa, Il Salviatino lies proudly on the hillside of Fiesole, with inspirational views of Florence and the rolling Tuscan landscape. Set in lush green landscaped parkland the buzz of Florence is just a free 10 minutes shuttle drive away from the plush villa. Once inside, the villa boasts a museum’s stash of 19th-century frescoes, antique bath tubs and valuable artworks. However, it’s not all Renaissance splendour, but more a thoughtful minimalist and modern approach to classic Tuscan design.
Sumptuous room and suites have been individually decorated, in keeping with the villa and its gardens. Featuring handmade authentic Tuscan linen, lovingly selected artwork and the finest leathers all suites and rooms are an elegant blend of local artisanship and the latest in technology. Pick of the suites are the grand Melodia, Tegliacci and Affresco with restored fresco ceilings, imposing fireplaces and plump chesterfields. Or try the Ojetti Suite with a dramatic sun room, a private roof terrace and a jacuzzi bath with a view.
In the winter La Cucina del Salviatino is set in the hotel's library, with just a cluster of candlelit tables and impressive portraits. In the summer guests dine on the terrace with breath-taking views over the skyline of Florence. The cuisine is a reinvented take on traditional Tuscan fare. Crowd-pleasers include ricotta and spinach gnudi with sage butter, and almond tartlets with pecorino and pear sorbet. Picks from the wine cellar are reliably excellent too.
The Lounge Bar is a long, smart space on the ground floor. Patio doors lead out on to the balustraded balcony, which has wonderful vistas.
The summer terraced pool area has three heated, cascading infinity pools, overlooking the valley in the fragrant gardens. Light snacks and drinks are served poolside.
Set in a lush green corner of the hotel's grounds, Spa Il Salviatino uses products by Florentine perfumier and cosmetologist Dr Vranjes. There is also a gym, library, 12 acres of landscaped parkland to keep guests busy.
