This was a sold out gig last year, when 35,000 jazz lovers convened over a three-day period in Dubai’s amphitheatre. This year’s theme, ‘Much more than jazz’ means festival goers can expect a more varied line-up; where classic rock and indie-pop performances will also feature alongside jazz. The lineup looks set to be pretty amazing again this year; featuring multi-award winning artist Sting who is returning following a big performance last year, Chris Botti, a well known trumpeter and composer, American rock band Toto, David Gray and Santana are also billed to perform. 24 - 26 February, www.dubaijazzfest.com

For any foodies out there, this one’s for you. A city-wide festival that is the highlight of the Dubai foodie calendar as it celebrates Dubai’s emerging position as a gastronomic destination. This 12-day festival is the ultimate celebration of the written and spoken work. All ages are welcome and guests are offered the opportunity to meet world-famous authors, attend literary debates, listen to readings and participate in workshops. Art lovers the world over will travel to Dubai for these two Art World events; two contemporary art fair events which are taking place in Dubai this spring. Art Dubai begins in mid-March; it is an essential gathering for collectors, artists and art professionals from throughout the region. It will feature three gallery programmes; contemporary, modern and marker...as well as the many open galleries, the festival includes artists and curators residencies, commissioned projects, performances and educational workshops and audiences will have the opportunity to discover the work of over 500 artists who span throughout history and across the map. World Art Dubai is held at the beginning of April; it is an even more international affair, it brings art together from four different continents. Dubai World Cup

Dubai’s biggest sporting event takes place on the last Saturday in March every year which marks the end of the Dubai racing season. The event is worth a US$30m and it features nine races; six from group 1 and three from group 2. The final race, (the richest race in the world) is one to be remembered; sponsored by Emirates Airline, it is worth US$10m. The day always concludes with a big live music act; details for this year are yet to be announced but last year Kylie Minogue took to the stage for a stellar performance. 26 March 2016 www.dubaiworldcup.com
