What to wear in Davos & Klosters

Let the Alpine action begin. Just make sure you are suitably wrapped up for sartorial success

There is no escaping the freezing conditions of an Alpine resort in winter. Even a roaring log fire and slug of Glühwein does not take the chill factor away. So what is the stylish answer to dressing for such wintry conditions? Simple – luxe layers, lashings of fur, statement snow boots and a decent all-weather jacket (a hat, gloves and a scarf go without saying). Cashmere sweaters, oversized knits and ponchos make great après ski partners for the ladies and if in doubt, throw on something fabulous and furry.

For the gents, polo necks (yes they have received a modern rebirth), cable knit sweaters and Fair Isle knits paired with jeans or wool trousers take you effortlessly from snow to fireside glow. Even for the gents, retro style moon boots are back on the style radar and are not only super practical, but add a contemporary twist to your après ski gear. If you are hitting the slopes, chances are you already have your gear in the bag. But if an all-in-one salopette ensemble circa 1985 has made its way into your Alpine capsule wardrobe, ditch it. For a surefire root to sartorial slope success, hit the boutiques and deck yourself out in block colour trousers, a contrasting block colour or patterned jacket and some neon-injected skis.

Sturdy all-terrain Sorel boots are a winter staple that stand out with a hooded parka or quilted jacket -- the epitome of laidback cool for the ladies and gents worn over a suit or après ski. When on the slopes, don’t be afraid of a bolt of neon especially when it comes to your board or skis.
