Valais is a canton that has always been proud of its traditions, which include its cuisine and wines. With its candle-lit interiors, restaurant les alpes presents the time- honoured specialities of the region, such as dried Valais beef, the raclette menu, cheese fondue and another tomato version, and, for dessert, chocolate fondue. if this sounds rather ambitious, don't worry: the relaxed atmosphere induces you to linger and enjoy. the matterhorn will still be there the day after.

This restaurant, in informal yet beautifully designed interiors, serves excellent cuisine as demonstrated by its excellent reputation. Though the inspiration is strictly mediterranean, the menu benefits from a range of influences, making Jasper one of Lucerne's 'modern fine dining' restaurants. ingredients are creatively combined to enhance individual flavours, with superb presentation. Fantastic desserts are served with the possibility to pair them with dessert wine by the glass.

This is fusion cuisine at its finest, as demonstrated by the 14 Gault millau points the restaurant has been awarded. the interiors of bam bou are spectacular, decorated with the typical Chinese colours of black and red with gilt trim, and the menu offers a sophisticated dining experience. The innovative dishes comprise superb seafood and sushi, with a wide selection of wines. The restaurant is open weekdays for lunch and dinner, and only for dinner on Saturdays and Sundays.

With two michelin stars and 18 Gault Millau points, this is a wonderful mediterranean haute cuisine experience. chef Peter Knogl was named chef of the Year 2011 by Gault Millau, and his recipes are wonderful combinations of flavours in which very different ingredients are skilfully interwoven. For example, duck foie gras is presented with mango and passion fruit, while breton lobster is enhanced by bergamot and green apple. the wine list comprises 800 labels, including some rare vintages.

Restaurant Atelier, part of the 'Guest & culture-house' Der Teufelhof Basel, reinforces the hotel's arts-oriented hospitality. It has a large artwork on one wall on which diners are invited to add their own contribution. the menu itself is light and creative, with mediterranean touches in the form of pasta, lots of vegetables and salad, as well as locally- sourced ingredients. The objective is
to combine food culture with painting, sculpture and theatre, and guests are considered as partners in this voyage of discovery.
